A Green-Certified Hotel by Travel Green Wisconsin

The Hilton Milwaukee Downtown is proud to be a green certified hotel and a Travel Green Wisconsin business. Some of the practices contributing to the Hilton's certification score are: the robust linen re-use program, a recycling program, and a conscious effort to ensure all office paper and stationery exceed the recycled paper requirement.

Travel Green Wisconsin is a voluntary program that reviews, certifies and recognizes organizations that have made a commitment to reducing their environmental impact. The program encourages these organizations to evaluate their operations and take specific actions towards environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

The main initiative of Travel Green Wisconsin program is to protect the beauty and vitality of Wisconsin's landscape and natural resources. The natural resources, green space, and cultural diversity are among its most important tourism assets. Preserving them for future generations is in the best interest of Wisconsin travelers, as well as the tourism industry and Wisconsin's overall economy.

How to Earn Travel Green Wisconsin Certification

Travel Green Wisconsin is a voluntary self-certifying sustainable tourism program that features eco friendly hotels and services. To earn certification, applicants supply the Wisconsin Environmental Initiative with a Baseline Environmental Performance Assessment. Theis assessment collects information about the amount of energy, fuel, water, and solid waste that the business consumed during the last calendar year. Next, the applicants must commit to enough sustainable business practices found within the TGW checklist to accumulate 30 or more points. Some of the relative criteria for hospitality businesses are as follows:

  • Waste Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling
  • Energy Efficiency, Conservation, and Management
  • Water Conservation and Wastewater Management
